The use of 3T multi-parametric MRI scan has gained popularity recently in the diagnosis and management of prostate cancer. Urobriz is one of the first centres in Australia to use this technology at the Wesley Medical Imaging. It is a non-invasive imaging technique which is capable of providing significant information about the anatomical and functional measures of prostate cancer at a high spatial resolution. The procedure is done as an outpatient and takes approximately 30 minutes and has been shown to reduce the need for unnecessary prostate biopsies. In cases where a suspicious prostate lesion is found, a MRI needle guided biopsy of prostate lesion can be performed. It can also be used to guide surgeons in nerve sparing robotic radical prostatectomy and in management of patients who are on active surveillance for their prostate cancer.
